Security Council resolution 1559 (2004), 2 Septmebr 2004, calls for the disarmament of all Lebanese and non- Lebanese militias. It calls upon all remaining foreign forces to withdraw from Lebanon and to hold free presidential elections without any foreign intervention. Security Council Resolution 425 (1978) of 19 March 1978 calls upon Israel to cease its military action against Lebanese territorial integrity and withdraw its forces from Lebanon. Security Council resolution 1595 (2005), 7 April 2005, establishes an international independent investigation Commission to assist the Lebanese authorities in their investigation of the assasination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri and other political assasinations. Security Council Resolution 1757 (2007), 30 May 2007, establishes the Special Tribunal for Lebanon. It has jurisdiction to prosecute "persons responsible for the attack of 14 February 2005 resulting in the death of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri and in the death or injury of other persons." In addition it may have jurisdiction over other political assasinations that occured after October 2004 depending on the consent of the Security Council. Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006), 18 August 2006, calls for the ceasing of hostilities and the increase of UNIFIL forces (UN Interim Force in Lebanon) to 15,000 troops. The report recommended that Israel compensate Lebanon for damages caused by the Israeli armed forces during the conflict.
