Course Description
The UN today aims at bringing an end to the impunity of perpetrators of international crimes. The creation of the international criminal tribunals, as well as the assistance given to the creation of mixed, and to the establishment of the ICC clearly illustrate the central role played by the UN in that process. The course will take an institutional approach in providing students with unique insights into the international criminal justice system which has been developed to bring an end to impunity for international crimes. Students will travel to The Hague (NL), in order to visit international criminal courts and tribunals, and to meet and discuss the latest legal developments with high-ranking international criminal judges, prosecutors and defence lawyers. Participation in the course will be determined on the basis of a competitive selection process. Students will be required to write a research paper for assessment purposes.
