The projects outlined on this page are designed to address contemporary problems related to international norms in armed conflict and human rights policy questions. Most projects involve applied research, expert meetings and contributions to negotiations in inter-governmental fora. Projects are often commissioned by Governments or supported by international organizations. So far these projects have enjoyed support from the Swiss, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian and British Governments. The products aim to help decision-makers, civil society and others better understand the implications of the policy choices they are facing.
In 2010 the concentration has been on the preparation and finalization of a Code of Conduct for Private Security Providers; the development of a manual to enhance ownership of humanitarian norms by armed non-state actors; the launching of a blog on the negotiations regarding a proposed Arms Transfer Treaty; the review of the UN Human Rights Council; and an initiative on the creation of a normative framework for peasants’ rights.
I would invite you to peruse the full list of projects set out below and please feel free to contact us with new ideas.
