Specialized training modules are tailored to the needs of professionals who seek to acquire in-depth knowledge in specific areas of International Law in Armed Conflict. The training modules are offered in the context of the Academy’s Executive Master programme, enabling participants to draw from the comprehensive expertise of the programme’s faculty and to interact with other professionals attending the executive master programme.

Training Modules and Schedule

All specialized training modules consist of seven classes which are typically taught in consecutive weeks on Friday afternoons. The commencing date for each module is indicated in the list below; for a complete list of class dates, please refer to the detailed module descriptions. At present, the following specialized training modules are offered by the Academy:

International Humanitarian Law
- Weapons and Armed Conflict (first class on 02.03.2012)
- Enforcement of International Humanitarian Law (first class on 27.04.2012)

International Criminal Law
- The Establishment of International Criminal Tribunals (first class on 27.04.2012)
- The International Criminal Court (first class on 27.04.2012)

Human Rights in Armed Conflict
- Human Rights Case Law in Armed Conflict (first class on 02.03.2012)
- Peace Keeping and Human Rights (first class on 15.06.2012)

Public International Law
- Post-conflict situations and reparations programmes (first class on 02.03.2012)
- The Security Council and the Maintenance of Peace and Security (first class on 15.06.2012)

Certificate

Participants will be issued a certificate of participation for the respective training module. Participants who upon completion of the module pass the take-home exam – which is not mandatory – are issued a certificate of accreditation for the training module.

Tuition Fees

The tuition fee amounts to CHF 950 per specialized training module.

Application and Admission Process

Eligibility
Participants must be professionals, and include typically practising lawyers, corporate counsel, diplomats, government officials and staff from international organizations as well as representatives from NGOs.

  1.    Work experience in the field
  2.    Bachelor's degree minimum
  3.    Proficiency in English

Required Documents
 

  1. Application letter, stating the motivation for participation as well as the specific training module(s) applicants wish to attend
  2. A detailed CV
  3. Proof of competence in English

Application Deadline
Applications for the specialized training modules must be submitted at the latest two weeks prior to the first class of the respective module. Please consult the module description for information on the commencement of respective modules. Early applications are advisable since only a limited number of participants are admitted for each training module.

Admission Notification
The decision on the admission to training modules is taken within a few days upon receipt of the admission file. Available spaces for each training module are limited and allocated in sequence of the receipt of successful applications.
Upon admission to the training modules, participants will receive instructions concerning payment modalities. Proof of payment is required before commencement of the respective training module.
