Prof. Nicolas Michel

Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Geneva, Nicolas Michel is also Adjunct Professor at the Graduate Institute of International Studies and Development. Since March 2009 he chairs the Board of the Academy. From 2004-2008, he was Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs and United Nations Legal Counsel.

He holds a Privat Docent and a Doctorate in Law from the University of Fribourg (Switzerland), a Master in International Relations from Georgetown University, Washington, D.C., and has been admitted to the Swiss Bar. He was a Professor at the University of Fribourg from 1987 to 2004. He was Director for Public International Law from 1998-2004 and Legal Advisor for the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs from 2003-2004.
